(Topics are modified for age levels.)


Homeschool Session 1 -- Junior (11+) & Pee Wee(6 - 10):

  • January 6th – Breeds/colors/uses – conformation -  history of the horse -
  temperament and personalities
  • January 13th – Safety – communication -herd instinct– proper leading –
  • January 20th – Hoof/shoe care – meet the farrier! 
  • January 27 – Drawing/art lesson I – book club discussion

Homeschool Session 2 -- Junior (11+) & Pee Wee(6 - 10):

  • February 3 – Nutrition – feeding and watering – horse treats
  • February 10 –lLunge line training – after work care – gaits and movement
  • February 17 – Teeth and aging -  dentistry – meet the dentist
  • February 24 – Drawing/art lesson II – book club discussion

Homeschool Session 3 -- Junior (11+) & Pee Wee(6 - 10):

  • March 3 – Giving to the bit – how to sit – how to turn – how to walk and
  halt – neck reining  - riding exercises
  • March 10 – Natural horsemanship - handling bad behavior – leading a pony –
  tools for training
  • March 17 – Types of tack and uses – proper tacking – saddle fitting – tack
  cleaning
  • March 24 – Drawing/art  lesson III – book club discussion
  • March  31 – Optional horse show for session 1-3 students – cost $30

Homeschool Session 4 -- Junior (11+) & Pee Wee(6 - 10):

  • April 7 – Leg issues – wrapping/boots etc – health and well being – horse
  meds/first aid
  • April 14 – Grooming and clipping/mane pulling - braiding
  • April 21 – Proper bathing – anatomy – how each part is used
  • April 28 – Drawing/art lesson IV– book club discussion

Homeschool Session 5 -- Junior (11+) & Pee Wee(6 - 10):

  • May 5 – Basics of training – starting a green horse – teaching cues
  • May 12 – Tying knots, how to mount & dismount – emergency dismount – stall
  care – types of bedding
  • May 19 – Styles of riding – jobs in the equine industry - hippotheraphy –
  use of horses for handicapped riders –
  • May 26 – Drawing/art V – book club discussion
  • June 3 – Optional horse show for students in sessions 4-5
